What will we be doing?
The captain will take you out onto the Wadden Sea. Along the way, he will stop the boat along a sandbank exposed by the retreating tide. You’ll be able to deboard the vessel via a gangway.
What do I need to bring?
Boots (wellies) or old shoes are recommended for walking on the sandbank.
And don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars, too! If the weather’s fair, you can walk barefoot and feel the wad floor between your toes.
What will we see?
Once everyone’s feet are planted on the sandbank, your guide will tell you all about the rich variety of life in the tidal floor.
Children can explore freely on their own using a scoop net (these can be borrowed from the captain). We will remain on the sandbar for one hour. There is plenty to see and it’s a unique experience!
Before the tide turns, everyone will be back on the boat.
We’ll put the catch from the scoop nets into the livewell on deck. The captain and/or guide will explain what you are seeing. Afterwards, the creatures will be returned (still alive!) to the sea.
Who are the cruises for?
For all ages. It’s something everyone should do at least once!
And if the weather’s less than perfect?
We will set out anyway. The windier the day, the greater the adventure. Only a severe storm can keep us at the dock. Rain? No problem! Pop on a raincoat and then warm up by the heater in the galley afterwards. Mist or drizzle? That’s when the wad mudflats are at their most beautiful (and peaceful).
Will we see any seals?
Maybe….there are no guarantees but of cours we will do our utmost for that!
